Upon calling our office, we will discuss the reason you, or your loved one, are pursuing a neuropsychological evaluation, and will also explain our services. We will then need to gather personal information to help determine the reason for the neuropsychological evaluation. Once this is completed, the intake coordinator will schedule you for the initial intake. Once the intake is complete, an evaluation would be scheduled within 4 weeks following the intake appointment. Following the neuropsychological evaluation, you will receive the full report within 2 to 3 weeks. A feedback session with Dr. Fearing will also be scheduled to discuss evaluation results and recommendations and to answer questions you may have about the evaluation. Dr. Fearing does not use a psychometrist and personally conducts each evaluation one on one.

Examples of Common Childhood/Adolescent Evaluations

ADHD Evaluations
This evaluation is typically conducted in conjunction with a neuropsychological evaluation. It is an objective method for diagnosing Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This evaluation incorporates observation of the student as well as standardized tests that measure attention and related cognitive skills. A precise and ethical diagnosis of ADHD depends on a thorough integration of testing results with academic, behavioral, and developmental histories taken from parents, teachers, and medical records.

Proper diagnosis of ADHD involves specification of subtype of symptom presentation. Both behavioral and medical interventions typically improve a child’s academic performance, level of energy, mood stability, and self-esteem in a dramatic fashion. Frequently students who were regarded as “lazy” or “underachieving” are perceived in a more accurate and constructive manner.

Gifted And Talented Evaluations
This evaluation provides formal documentation of a child’s exceptional thinking skills, problem-solving, creativity, and academic achievement levels. I.Q. scores will be provided as part of the results.

Meeting the needs of a gifted student is often a frustrating process. Standard school curricula are often inadequately stimulating for a child who processes basic information quickly. Research has shown that under-stimulated children can manifest behavioral, social, and emotional difficulties. Maximizing the potential of a gifted child requires that parents and educators have a full knowledge of the child’s specific talents. This evaluation will help identify a child’s areas of strength, special interests, and learning style. We will provide strategies to stimulate continued growth in areas of strength and interest. In addition, we will help you outline a plan geared toward the successful social integration of your child. We will also identify enrichment programs, opportunities, and other resources that will challenge and motivate your unique child.

Psychological and Academic Evaluations
This evaluation measures psychological dimensions that relate to social and emotional functioning so that an accurate diagnosis of a child’s difficulty can be reached. Accurate diagnosis of psychological difficulties will lead to treatment strategies that work to improve social relationships, self-esteem, energy, view of self, ability to initiate, emotional stability, and academic performance. Children may feel less overwhelmed, more in control, and happier. They may demonstrate more positive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Academic achievement evaluations are a measure of what a child has learned in the primary academic areas, including reading skills, spelling, writing skills, and mathematics skills. Academic achievement testing reveals areas of strength and weakness and informs areas that need remediation. Information is generated that explains the child’s level of knowledge in comparison to both same-age and same-grade peers.

Full neuropsychological and psychological evaluations for adults 18+ who are experiencing cognitive difficulties or underlying psychological/emotional difficulties. The goal of the evaluation will be to identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses, and to assist with diagnosis and treatment of neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions. Following the evaluation you will be given a report, typically 3 to 4 weeks post evaluation, that explains any cognitive difficulties you may be experiencing. A feedback session will also be conducted to go over the results of the evaluation, and to answer any questions you have. Clear recommendations will be given for treatment. Evaluations are also conducted with college aged students to determine if accommodations in the college/university setting would be appropriate and beneficial.
